Wii U Receiving New Titles From the Creator of Super Mario Bros? (VIDEO)

Shigeru Miyamoto, the mind behind Super Mario Bros. and the Legend of Zelda, is looking to create new franchises as the Wii U arrives.

In a video interview with Zoomin.tv, Miyamoto revealed that he's currently developing a new intellectual property. This IP will be a completely new video game franchise that may see its debut on the Wii U.

Alongside this new video game franchise, Miyamoto is also developing a new entry in the "Pikmin" franchise. The Wii U is expected to re-debut at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

In the interview, Miyamoto provided some statements on gamers' expectation of him. "People have come to expect a lot from me," he said. "This certainly makes me feel some pressure. But if you ask me, 'Is it too much pressure to try to come out with something new?' I have to say no, I'm enjoying myself."

He added, "But when I make something I always try to do my best." He didn’t reveal any details on his new game, however.

Last year, Shigeru Miyamoto was believed to have retired from his developer/producer duties at Nintendo.

In an interview with Wired, Miyamoto stated that he wished to step back from his current role and work on some smaller projects: "Inside our office, I've been recently declaring, 'I'm going to retire, I'm going to retire.’ I'm not saying that I'm going to retire from game development altogether. What I mean by retiring is, retiring from my current position."

"What I really want to do is be in the forefront of game development once again myself," he continued. "Probably working on a smaller project with even younger developers. Or I might be interested in making something that I can make myself, by myself. Something really small."

Nintendo declared Miyamoto’s perceived retirement as untrue: "This is absolutely not true. There seems to have been a misunderstanding. He has said all along that he wants to train the younger generation. He has no intention of stepping down."

Now that the public knows Miyamoto is still at work crafting video games, the excitement factor is high for his new upcoming work.
