WWE Night of Champions Results: Did David Defeat Goliath?

Last night the world watched as the WWE hosted its annual Night of Champions, featuring the main event of Daniel Bryan versus Randy Orton in a "David versus Goliath" type match. Who came away the victor? Read on for full coverage of the event.

Bryan had been repeatedly told that he was not the face of the WWE and had no chance at winning against Orton. He had been tormented by COO Triple H and Orton. Yet last night he was given the opportunity to fight Orton in a fair match, without any interference from the Shield.

Both competitors gave it their all but in the end, Bryan was able to use the same moves that clinched the win over John Cena at SummerSlam. Detroit's Joe Louis Arena erupted into cheers of "Yes! Yes! Yes!" as Bryan beamed with victory. What will happen now that Bryan has proven himself to not only have the heart of a champion but the capability to be a champion?

In the other headline match, CM Punk battled Curtis Axel and manager Paul Heyman in a No Disqualification match. Punk had to defeat Axel in order to get his hands on Heyman, who was his true target. Once punk finally got Heyman in the middle of the ring, he beamed with excitement: this was the moment he had been waiting for. Punk took advantage of the moment and, in a situation that had happened weeks earlier, handcuffed Heyman before beating him with a kendo stick.

As Punk continued his assault, Ryback made his way to the ring and assaulted Punk, knocking him unconscious. He then placed Heyman on top of Punk's body to guarantee him the win. Is Ryback now working with Heyman? Only time will tell.

During the battle for World Heavyweight Champion, between Rob Van Dam and Alberto Del Rio, both brought their A-game and gave it their all. However, Del Rio refused to release Van Dam from his signature move, leading to a disqualification. Del Rio managed to remain champion, but how long can his luck hold out? Van Dam certain to request another match for the championship.

In the Divas Fatal 4-Way Championship Match, AJ Lee managed to hold on to her title against Natalya, Naomi and Brie Bella. Now she has a new host of competitors eager to take the belt away from the champion.
