Your Blood Glucose and Your Spiritual Health
Many of us have faced challenges over the years with our weight. After years of failed attempts at weight loss, I was given a bit of a wake-up call last November during a routine physical. They checked my A1C which reveals your average blood glucose level over the previous 3 months. It should be at 6 or lower, and mine was at 10.2. This placed me in the diabetic range.
This led to 5 months with plenty of exercise and fewer calories. After losing 40 pounds, my A1C came down to 6. Needless to say, it feels great to finally get that weight off and also to have my A1C at this level. I am now highly motivated to keep the weight off and keep my A1C where it is today. So far, so good.
This led me to consider a way in which people can check their spiritual health. I have started using G10C as a way of thinking about the soul. G10C stands for "God's 10 Commandments," and your G10C is whatever number you believe God would give you for your obedience to His commandments over the past 3 months.
Perhaps your G10C today is 75%, or 60%, or maybe even 85%. One thing is sure. It isn't 100%, at least not by your own doing.
Let me ask you this: What number do you think God requires your G10C to be at in order to be in His family and go to heaven one day? I had someone tell me recently that he thinks God requires a G10C reading of about 75%. That seems reasonable doesn't it? And yet, here is the reality. God requires your G10C to be 100% in order for you to be a part of His eternal family.
I hope you are thinking, "How could I ever get to 100%?" There is only one way my friend. It is not by self-effort. It is not by doing religious stuff. It can only happen through faith in the blood of Jesus which was shed on the cross for your sins. As you trust in Christ alone for salvation, His blood cleanses you and brings your G10C up to 100%. This is the only way it can happen.
Once your G10C is at 100%, you begin wanting to do those things which please God. You don't do them "in order to be saved," but because you "have been saved." Your soul is cleansed and you are accepted by your Father in heaven through the sacrifice of His Son on the cross. Your own merit does absolutely nothing to increase your G10C. Our works could never save us. If they could, there would have been no reason for Jesus to come to earth and die for our sins.
So do you know your A1C? And more importantly, how about your G10C? As beneficial as it is for us to have good physical health, how much more critical is it for our sins to be forgiven and our soul to be healthy! Your blood glucose level has significance, but only Christ's blood provides eternal salvation!
Your earthly body is temporary. Your soul is immortal. Therefore, it is imperative that your soul be healed through faith in the blood of Jesus. Otherwise, you could end up having terrific health in your body for a few years, but miss out on the joy of paradise in heaven. That tragic situation is very common, but it doesn't have to happen to you my friend.
Do a "self-test" today as you consider your G10C. Give yourself a score. And see if it is 100%. If it isn't, at least now you know what is needed for it to be 100%. Christ's sacrifice on the cross provides all the forgiveness that is necessary for every soul who comes to Him through faith. Do you really want to live another minute without knowing that your G10C is where it needs to be? "Today is the day of salvation." (2 Cor. 6:2)
So get tested. When it comes to evaluating your weight and your soul, what have you got to lose?
