Zac Efron: 'A Fan Bit Me,' Appears at Premiere With Injury

Zac Efron sported a bandaged left hand to the European premiere of his newest film "The Lucky One," and when red carpet reporters asked him about the injury, the actor's first response was a joke.

"A fan bit me," the 24-year-old laughed, showing off the flesh-colored wraparound bandage.

Efron's wisecrack about being bitten by a rabid fan was funny, but not too farfetched. Fans of the teenage heartthrob have been infamously enthusiastic throughout his short career. From the days "High School Musical" up until bigger roles like "17 Again," Efron has been the subject of much adoration.

The frenzy over the California-born actor will likely continue once fans see him starring in "The Lucky One," a Nicholas Sparks film about a U.S. Marine saved by a picture of a beautiful girl.

On the red carpet at the premiere, Efron arrived with Taylor Schilling, who plays his on-screen love interest, Beth. While in the film, the two are fated lovers, reporters saw them arrive hand in hand as each other's date for the evening. Schilling, 27, is relatively unknown in film, and she appeared in a multicolored, crocheted dress.

Efron opted for a much simpler suit: his understated navy blue three-piece suit complemented Schilling's extravagance well.

Despite the fact that his co-star was several inches taller than him in heels, Efron stayed by her side, choosing to hold her close, injured hand and all.

While the star's representative has not yet commented on the cause of the injury, the Daily Mail alleged that the bandages could have been for a "fruit-related accident"- a strange-sounding incident indeed.

Efron's cut could have been similar to Miley Cyrus' injury recently, when the actress sliced her hand while cooking dinner in her San Fernando Valley home. She was taken to the emergency room, where she received stitches to heal the wound.

"@MileyCyrusBz I'm all stitched up & have on a splint so I'm good. As you can tell by my expression, didn't feel so good. Curse u blender!" Cyrus tweeted after receiving hospital treatment.
