Desperate Housewives Season 8: Cast and Fans React to Finale

Viewers and cast members alike have expressed sadness that ABC’s multi-award winning show “Desperate Housewives” is ending after its eighth season.

In an announcement, creator of the show Marc Cherry said, “I wanted to go out on the classiest way possible.”

Cherry explained the decision to end the series saying, “I wanted to go out when the network still saw us as a viable show and doing well in ratings.”

He emphasized that the decision was difficult, “especially when you have such an amazing cast.”

Cherry broke the news to much of the show’s head cast members, including original “Housewives” Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher. He told reporters, “I love my cast… people are smart enough to be grateful.”

Original “Housewives” star Eva Longoria took to her Twitter account writing, “Its confirmed! We are filming our last season of Desperate Housewives! I am so grateful for what the show has given me!”

Longoria has played character Gabrielle Solis on the show since 2004. The actress continued, “We always wanted to end on top and I thank ABC for giving us our victory lap! And a special thanks for Marc Cherry who forever changed my life!”

Marcia Cross, who plays “Housewives” original character Bree Van de Kamp, tweeted, “Desperate Housewives fans thank you for all your love and support!!!!”

Tennis star and “Housewives” fan Serena Williams wrote “I die” after re-tweeting IMDb’s Twitter announcement that ABC had confirmed the show’s eighth season would be its last.

Williams also tweeted, “I could not be more sad that this will be the last season of Desperate Housewives. I was just about to move to wisteria lane.”

E!’s “Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s” star Kendall Jenner posted her response to the show’s end on her Twitter account, “NOOOOOO! I don’t know what I’m gunna do without Desperate Housewives.”

Fans are reacting to the final season on Twitter, and emotional reactions included devastation and sad farewells. One fan wrote, “Oh no! Desperate is the only show I watch!”

The eighth and final season of “Desperate Housewives” is scheduled to begin on September 25 on ABC.
