iPhone 5 Thinner, Higher Capacity 1440 mAH Battery Leaks (PHOTOS)
Pictures of battery packs that will be used to power the upcoming iPhone 5 were leaked earlier today.
Tech site 9to5Mac posted these images of the component, which the site claims to have received from a reliable parts source.
The battery packs in the pictures sport a higher capacity than the packs featured in previous generation iPhones such as the iPhone 4 and 4S. This battery's capacity is at 1440 mAh, while the iPhone 4 battery is 1420 mAh, and the iPhone 4S battery is 1430 mAh.

The voltage on these new battery packs has also been increased from those featured on previous iPhones. The new battery has a voltage of 3.8, while the iPhone 4 and 4S battery has a voltage of 3.7.
The watts-per-hour measurement has also been increased to 5.45 wHr from 5.3 on the iPhone 4S and 5.25 on the iPhone 4.This has been changed due to the battery's capacity being bumped up from 1430 to 1440 mAh.
The new battery's labeling shows that it was produced in June 2012, which makes it right on schedule for next-generation iPhone component manufacturing.
The reasoning for Apple including a more powerful battery in this new iPhone is deeper than just more power. The company needs to aim towards having the device perform at an optimum power level while functioning off more powerful 4G LTE networks. However, the jump in power on this battery from the previous versions might not be enough to make that happen.
This led 9to5Mac to believe that this leaked component could be for another version of the iPhone 4S that Apple could be releasing alongside the new iPhone, or it could be a battery that the company decided to scrap.
The iPhone 5 is expected to be unveiled next sometime next month.
