J. Lo Plays Santa: 'Do Something Nice,' Says Star

J. Lo won't be taking time to sit on Santa's lap this Christmas. Instead, the pop-singer will be busy playing Santa herself.

J. Lo is pulling out every trick that social media has to offer in order to promote her latest gift drive. The "J. Lo's Christmas Gift" event is in support of some of the star's top organizations, which includes the Boys & Girls Club, the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Red Cross.

The star said that she had over 13 million followers on Twitter, which she saw as an opportunity.

"I thought, 'What if every person I tweeted and asked for a follow donated a dollar?' I have 13½ million followers (on Twitter)," she said in a phone interview with the Associated Press. "We can collect a lot of money for these charities that I work with that are literally close to my heart."

The singer appeared to be infected with the Christmas spirit and said that she hoped to encourage her fans to pay it forward.

"It's just that kind of doing something nice for somebody, and they do something nice back and kind of paying it forward," she said.

J. Lo said last week that for her, Christmas was not about getting gifts but giving them.

"I love going and shopping for Christmas presents for everybody and making gifts for people and seeing their faces light up and surprising them; that's where I get my joy," she claimed.

J. Lo has taken a particular interest in the Red Cross this year after her ex-husband Marc Anthony was affected by Hurricane Sandy.

"My babies (4-year-old twins Max and Emme) had to go there and visit their dad shortly after, and it was like, kind of a scary proposition to send them because I didn't know what it was going to be like," she told AP. "Just knowing how so many people were affected by it and when you really hear the stats of it ... there's not enough you can do."
