Justin Bieber Defended By Toronto Mayor

Justin Bieber is being defended by controversial Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, after the singer turned himself in to police custody in the country.

Bieber, the 19-year-old Canadian crooner, returned to his home country where he was accused of assaulting a limousine driver last December. After being called "Canada's worst export" on The Sports Junkie radio show based in Washington, D.C., Toronto's mayor defended the singer.

"He's a young guy, 19 years old," Ford said on the radio show. "I wish I was as successful as he was."

The mayor caused controversy last year when he admitted to smoking crack cocaine and is currently being accused of having his sister's ex-boyfriend beaten in jail to prevent the information from surfacing. Still, he has defended his fellow famed Canadian despite his own media scrutiny.

While Ford's fate is unclear, Bieber's camp has maintained the singer's innocence.

"The Toronto Police Service requested that Justin Bieber appear in Toronto today to face an allegation of assault," Bieber's attorney said in a statement issued to E!. "We anticipate that this matter will be treated as a summary offense, the equivalent of a misdemeanor in the United States. Our position is that Mr. Bieber is innocent. As the matter is now before the court, it would be inappropriate to address the specifics of either the allegation or of our defense at this time."

Although Bieber was released from Toronto law enforcement custody after turning himself in, the news follows reports that the Canadian singer was arrested in Miami last week for a DUI. Aside from his recent arrest, Bieber has been scrutinized after being accused of egging his neighbor's home which could lead to legal trouble, along with other aggressive behavior.

The singer will face charges for his assault allegations in Toronto on March 10.
