Justin Bieber Smoking Weed Leads to '#CutforBieber' Twitter Hoax; Fans Outraged

In the wake of pictures surfacing of Justin Bieber allegedly smoking marijuana, a Twitter trend was started calling for fans to cut themselves in order to get Bieber to stop smoking.

The pictures of Bieber smoking weed apparently surfaced soon after New Year's Day. They showed the entertainer apparently smoking marijuana from a rolled up cigar wrapper- a "blunt"- during a Newport Beach hotel party on Jan. 2.

To cash in on the startling realization, an elaborate hoax was created targeting the emotionally distraught fans of Justin Bieber who were worried the star was headed down the wrong path.

Reports from Zap2It allege the Twitter hoax was started by members of the 4chan message board group. The hoax came only a few days after a photographer was killed crossing a street trying to get pictures of Bieber.

One user on the message board wrote: "Let's start a cut yourself for bieber campaign. Tweet a bunch of pics of people cutting themselves and claim we did it because bieber was smoking weed. See if we can get some little girls to cut themselves."

On Monday, the hoax was launched on Twitter using the hashtag "#CuttingForBieber" and "#CutForBieber." Some fans believed that it was a serious trend because of the attached pictures on various accounts showcasing bloody wrists and arms.

While some Twitter users understood the trend as a sick joke, other impressionable young fans took it more seriously, with some fans even posting pictures of them cutting themselves.

"@justinbieber stop smoking weed or I might actually kill myself," one user wrote in addition to posting a picture showing her bloody arm.

"It hurts, but I do it for my Justin," another fan tweeted with a picture showing a cut arm.

To show that fans cutting themselves is a terrible thing to do, another teenage star, Miley Cyrus, took to Twitter to show that this was not something that should be taken likely.

"cut4bieber? Cutting is NOT something to joke about. There are people who are actually suffering from self-harm, this is so disrespectful," Cyrus posted.
