Kim Kardashian Divorce: Did Announcement Hurt Her Reputation?

Kim Kardashian’s 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries may have been short, but the continued controversy surrounding the brief nuptials may cause lasting damage to her image.

Twitter reaction to the celebrity’s divorce has been constant since the news first broke. But industry insiders, fans and the general public don’t seem to agree on whether the divorce debacle will tarnish Kardashian’s reputation or affect her career.

“If you made a mistake by rushing in, you owe it to yourself not to rush out,” ManEaterMpls tweeted Sunday.

David Caplan, a former editor at People and Star magazines told MTV News that Kardashian’s admission to rushing into the marriage may in fact be what saves her image.

“The tenor and the vibe has been a lot of sympathy towards her because she's sort of saying, 'I made a mistake, I rushed into it,'” he said. "And that's saving her from all of this."

The brevity, however, has generated a lot of reaction from the public.

“A 72 day wedding? I’ve faked being interested for that long!” TonyLoko_NLA wrote on twitter.

DVNJr tweeted “#KimKardashian’s appearance on the Today Show accomplished the impossible. Made me a Kris Humphries fan.”

The massive amount of reaction on Twitter helps support vice chairman of Reputation.com Howard Bragman’s stance on Kardashian’s future in the entertainment industry and the future of her television show.

“If you think people aren't going to watch when she starts dating somebody new, you're kidding yourself," Bragman told MTV News.

Bragman said more people are likely to tune in to watch Kardashian as she dates someone new after the publicity from the divorce.

Others view the divorce as an extension of her show and continue to doubt the legitimacy of the marriage.

KhosiandherDrum tweeted “#kimkardashian nothing feels genuine when you’re always putting on a show.”
