Trump's week in review: California alters sports policy; public funding of gender surgeries probed

1. Trump pressures California to change its policy on women's sports
In a statement posted to Truth Social Tuesday, Trump threatened to withhold "large scale Federal Funding" from the state of California because a male trans-identified athlete is competing in the finals on a women's sports team.
Such participation goes against his executive order classifying the involvement of boys who identify as girls in women's sports as a violation of Title IX, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education. "THIS IS NOT FAIR, AND TOTALLY DEMEANING TO WOMEN AND GIRLS," Trump wrote.
In his post, Trump referred to a case where a "transitioned Male athlete, at a major event, won 'everything,' and is now qualified to compete in the 'State Finals' next weekend." Trump said, "As a Male, he was a less than average competitor. As a Female, this transitioned person is practically unbeatable."
Following Trump's threats to withhold federal funds from California, the California Interscholastic Federation announced that it will allow female athletes displaced by the advancement of male trans-identified athlete AB Hernandez to compete in the state finals following a dominating performance in the girls' long jump and triple jump at the CIF's Southern Section Masters Meet.
"Under this pilot entry process, any biological female student-athlete who would have earned the next qualifying mark for one of their Section's automatic qualifying entries in the CIF State meet, and did not achieve the CIF State at-large mark in the finals at their Section meet, was extended an opportunity to participate in the 2025 CIF State Track and Field Championships," the CIF stated. "The CIF believes this pilot entry process achieves the participation opportunities we seek to afford our student-athletes."
