iPhone 5 Media Event: Scaled Down Venue Indicates Updated iPhone 4 Launch?

Apple has finally confirmed that it would be hosting a media event on October 4 which is rumored to be for the unveiling of the iPhone 5, according to The Loop.

Some skeptics are already anticipating disappointment stating that this event may not include adding a radically new smartphone to the company’s lineup.

Apple normally holds media events in large venues such as San Francisco’s Moscone Center, but has chosen to scale down its approach by hosting the October event on its Cupertino, California Campus.

Oracle’s OpenWorld conference will be occupying the Moscone Center from October 2-6 which could be the reason why Apple has chosen to change locations.

According to Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair, Apple’s move may be for a different reason.

If the company wanted to debut a product of the iPhone 5’s caliber, other large venues aside from the Moscone center could have been chosen.

But the company’s choice to stay on its own turf could bear a disappointing outcome to those anticipating a brand new model.

Apple’s choice could reflect the fact that they are only unveiling an updated version of the iPhone 4.

Blair feels a radically changed device, like that of the iPhone 3’s upgrade to the 4 will not debut on October 4.

Instead, gadget fiends may get a first look at a new iPhone 4 with a faster processor, better camera and possibly larger screen.

The rumored tear dropped shaped iPhone 5 is said to sport a lighter sleek design with a bigger display as compared to the iPhone 4.

Blair’s predictions seem to mix the two.

IBtimes predicts that a new iPhone 4 would improve the company’s sales.

But without a high powered smartphone such as Samsung’s Galaxy S2 in the market, Apple will leave themselves with a lot of catching up to do.
